AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHIVES AND HISTORY FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPLEMENTING A MISSISSIPPI LANDMARK GRANT PROGRAM AND FOR ACQUIRING, PRESERVING AND INTERPRETING NATIONALLY SIGNIFICANT CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELDS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2000.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Historic Properties Trust Fund in the State Treasury to be used by the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History for the purpose of implementing a Mississippi Landmark Grant Program and for acquiring, preserving and interpreting nationally significant Civil War battlefields for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1999, and ending June 30, 2000 $10,000,000.00.
SECTION 2. Of the funds appropriated in Section 1, the money shall be allocated as follows:
Mississippi Landmark Grant Program $ 5,800,000.00.
Matching funds for acquisition of
nationally significant Civil War
battlefields pursuant to Section 131
of the Federal FY 1999 Interior and
Related Agencies Appropriations Act $ 2,200,000.00.
Matching funds for the proposed
development of Mississippi's Civil War
Trail through the enhancement grants
authorized by the Transportation Equity
Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) $ 2,000,000.00.
SECTION 3. The money appropriated by this act shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
